Our greatest need is weekdays, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Central (9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern). Evening and weekend tutors are welcome too: tell us when you can teach.

One student, one session

Each session is you and one student, live on Zoom, usually for 30 minutes, 45 minutes or 1 hour. You decide which students you want to work with. You choose and adapt materials for each student, because every child differs. After each session you write session notes, and SpecialEdResource provides AI summary tools that make note-writing mostly copy and paste.

In a tutor’s own words

Samantha, smiling

I enjoy working one-on-one with students and helping them build both academic skills and confidence. Each session is a little different, and I use interactive activities, games, rewards, and individualized strategies to keep students engaged and make learning feel fun. I also appreciate the support and flexibility I receive, which allows me to focus on meeting each student where they are.

Questions and answers

Can I apply if I live in Oklahoma?

Yes. Oklahoma is one of the 14 states where SpecialEdResource can currently employ tutors, and the job is 100% remote. The requirements are on the job page.

Do I need an Oklahoma teaching certificate to tutor with you?

No. The requirement is special education certification and a current teaching license, both from any US state. If your license has expired or is inactive, you can still apply, as long as you’ll renew it before you start.

I retired from teaching in Oklahoma. What do the TRS rules say?

The Teachers’ Retirement System of Oklahoma (TRS) says, in its FY2027 Member Handbook (page 28):

Other than disability retirement, there are no restrictions on post-retirement employment with an agency or institution that does not participate in TRS.

SpecialEdResource is a private company with no paid work from any Oklahoma public school, technology center, public college or state agency. As we read TRS’s rules, W-2 tutoring for SpecialEdResource is work for an employer that does not participate in TRS. If you retired by disability and are under your normal retirement age (62 or 65, depending on when you joined TRS), TRS requires you to notify it before you start any job, and pay above your final average salary minus your yearly disability benefit reduces that benefit. Confirm your own situation with TRS; our guide to TRS return-to-work rules has the details.

When are sessions?

Is this a W-2 job?

Yes. You’re a part-time W-2 employee of SpecialEdResource, and training is paid.
